KPBS Radio Interview With JoAnn Jaffe
Get to Know JoAnn
Hello and welcome to OG Yoga! I created OG Yoga with the mission to make healing yoga accessible to vulnerable communities. On October 6, 2015 OG Yoga became a nonprofit 501 C 3 tax-exempt project.
Current initiatives focus on underserved youth and adults, and those individuals facing poverty, incarceration, and transition back into community. OG Yoga is on-site at Community Wellness Collaborative Free Clinic, Braille Institute, Rehab-Neuro Management for Disabled Veterans, Villa de Vida for Developmentally Disabled. New initiatives include Father Joe's Villages, San Diego Center for Children, SOUL Academy Court School, and the Youth Transition Campus.
We partner with SAY San Diego to serve justice-impacted youth by giving them tools to control internal stress, build strength, and develop equanimity in the face of extreme stressors such as mental/physical abuse, abandonment, substance abuse, and arrest.
Because of the complex needs of the communities served I felt it crucial to recruit, vet, train and compensate highly experienced certified yoga instructors to deliver yoga in non-traditional settings and provide a safe and brave space for practitioners.
I bring a blend of private and public sector experience as a fundraiser, leader, social change advocate, passionate yogini, and instructor/mentor. I am an adjunct faculty member at Pacific College of Health & Science where I teach "Introduction to Yoga for Specialty Populations", in their two-year Associate Applied Science Degree in Yoga.
My yoga credentials include E-500 Registered Yoga Alliance training, Uprising Yoga for Youth & Underserved Communities, Yin Practice Certification, and Prison Yoga Project.
I served the San Diego Jewish Academy from 2010 to 2014 where I was responsible for leading fundraising and donor stewardship efforts, for the $13 million pluralistic preschool – 12th grade school where 30% of the families were new first generation families from Mexico, Argentina, Israel, South Africa, Russia and China.
Previously, I was director of development for Second Chance, a $3 million non-profit agency, whose mission is to live up to its name by transitioning inmates, homeless and chronically unemployed men, women and youth into jobs and housing. I have been honored for my hard work and dedication when I was awarded the “Women Who Mean Business Award” by San Diego Business Journal.
I received my MBA degree from the University of San Diego and attended UC Santa Barbara where I received my BA degree in Business Economics. I live in a 135-year old Victorian home in Sherman Heights, which I lovingly restored. I also enjoy hosting airbnb guests from all over the world inspiring the “Belong Anywhere Universal Branding.”

HELP US RECOVER SO WE CAN HELP OTHERS HEAL
Through partnerships with nonprofit organizations and correctional facilities we support healing, resilience, self-development and positive social change. By making a donation, you can support our initiatives to deliver on-site yoga to those who cannot access a studio and provide the necessary yoga mats and props. We encourage all donations but do not guarantee that donated funds will be used for a specific purpose.
